We are living through the end of an era and have entered a watershed period that involves a cascade of crises affecting the entire planet. The growing tension of opposite energies and polarized attitudes makes the world a more divided place and places each of us under greater pressure.
It becomes ever more important to know that the word crisis means “a turning point in an illness,” an existential moment in which a change for the better or for the worse will happen. When the crisis is long-term and involves so many levels of life, it becomes essential to seek moments of wholeness and find healing within ourselves.
Although we can feel small, fearful and fragile in the face of worldwide crises, humans are the “makeweights in the scales of time.” Each individual soul can help tip the balance of life towards healing, both a restoration of nature and a renewal of culture.
Whereas simple knowledge can add to the sense of polarization, genuine wisdom can bring revelations of hidden unities that underlie both nature and culture. Wisdom is both as old as the ages and as fresh as the current moment. And each person has inner medicine and natural wisdom waiting to be found and be brought to the work of healing ourselves and serving the world.
