While basic education can give a person some knowledge and grounding, the deeper aim of learning involves awakening to the dream and vision of our lives. As Aristotle warned, “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.”

The inner genius knows the dream trying to come to life through us; it naturally seeks confirmation and blessing from those appearing as teachers. In that sense, genius is the spirit behind education and the source of the light shining forth from the eyes of both teachers and pupils.

Amidst the collapse of vertical imagination, with everything falling into the soup of “the economy,” education can become a production line and learning just another product. Yet, learning has always been a sacred task; that’s why teachers can be so dedicated and willing to sacrifice for it.

For a society to become truly innovative and resilient, it must develop a deeper education of the heart and soul. At this time of worldwide transformation, when learning must be redesigned, old ideas of genius can help return education to its original role of awakening the spirit of learning in people of all ages.
